⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Paddra Nsu-Yeul
Age: 15
Canon: Final Fantasy XIII-2
Canon Point: Just after dying in the Dying World 700AF

Background: "I am one of many Yeuls."

Personality:
Innocent and pure. These are the two traits shared by practically every Yeul in history. Because Yeul is not the first Yeul to be born- but she is the last. In fact, it is the termination of the seeress rebirth that sets her apart from all the rest. Being permitted to live a normal life as a little girl in a doting tribe gave her the freedom to be more lighthearted and cheerful than her predecessors, who were raised in solitude.

Her past incarnations still linger within her, as she carries memories from all who came before. She is soft spoken. She is enigmatic. But she is also her own person. She might not be the Yeul who loved flowers, or the Yeul who wanted to travel. However, she is the Yeul who knew herself to be the last from a very young age, and did not fight or rail against her fate. Instead, she accepted her fate and chose to enjoy what life was allotted to her. This Yeul is a product of her environment, as much as she is her gift/curse.

Because she was the last, she was not taken away by her guardian Caius upon uttering her first word. Instead, she played with other children, got into mischief and formed bonds with her people who were quickly dying out. Knowing that she would perish from her visions, she embraces life and living, finding joy in anything she can. Yeul dances, she smiles... she is delighted that Noel remembers her birthday and plans to throw a party. When he's concerned it's depressing to have a party with only three, she insists that it will be fun so long as he and Caius are there. Even with witnessing the last of humanity dying off to leave only herself and Noel, and growing up in a world where not even plants can grow, she persists in hope, awaiting a different future.

She is also a dangerous enigma. She is innocent and trusts both Caius and Noel implicitly. She loves them deeply. But her power to see the future can be a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands. Or in hers. By sharing her final vision that she would see Noel again, she put him on a path that would lead to the timeline (and ultimately the world) being shattered. These new futures would alter the time in the past, causing her previous incarnations to see more futures, and die faster. But her compassion for Noel being left wholly alone as the last person alive prompted her to comfort him as she died. She knows it is not permitted for her to attempt to save herself, but she can and does choose to put the good of those she cares about above herself.

Knowing that her gift can be used and abused, she remains distant and removed, though less so from other Yeuls. She will interact with people, but there is always the worry that doing so could spell doom for them or introduce chaos into history. However, given the opportunity to live among people, she will choose to revel in being surrounded by life, and satisfy her curiosity about new things without hesitation or reserve. Most people will find her excessively calm, distant, and standoffish (and a little bit odd being so serious); but for her, it's an abundance of eagerness to simply see and observe and interact with the world. Having such an old soul makes her appear wiser than her years would imply, and she does have a sharper understanding than a girl her age should have. Yeul might not be the most talkative chatterbox of a teenager, but she knows how to make herself known by a look or gesture, at least with those she knows well.

Despite being less reserved than her predecessors, Yeul is still keenly aware of her responsibilities and the effect her words or actions can have. She remains silent on the fate of the seeress, not out of an attempt of deception, but to prevent unduly influencing Noel. She instead chooses to suffer in silence under the burden of her foreknowledge, rather than inflict emotional harm on someone she loves. She is lonely in her fate and chooses to remain so in a self-sacrificing way of protecting everyone from her visions. She is dutiful to her end, committing her final vision to the Oracle Drive before dying, as Caius had already left and the prophecy had to be preserved...left behind for an empty world. Ultimately, she puts the needs of others above her own and does not begrudge others for not realizing it is what she is doing.

Abilities:
Yeul has a unique gift passed down for centuries among her people: the Eyes of Etro. This gift permits the seeress of that generation to receive visions of the future, at the cost of gradually shortening her lifespan. Beyond that, she is an ordinary girl with no combat experience, necessitating a Guardian to protect her from dying prematurely (oh the irony).

Alignment: Peromei. Even knowing exactly when she is destined to die, Yeul persists in hope for a new future. One where she will be with Noel, smiling and happy. She believes in this vision, even when all evidence indicates it cannot be. Likewise, she is a source of despair for Caius, yet another Yeul for him to watch perish before she's truly had a chance to live.

Questions:
Since Yeul has been pulled out of her own timeline (and arguably out of the movement of time entirely), will she continue to see visions of the future? If so, will it kill her again? She's already tapped out her lifespan's allowance of visions.
